Patrice Pratt

“From the convent, to the sit-in, to the boardroom”

Born in Ohio, Patrice Pratt moved to Vancouver in 1969 having traveled in a VW Bus from San Francisco after leaving her apartment down the block from Janis Joplin. A life-long community advocate and labour relations leader, Patrice is currently serving her second term as Chair, Vancity Board of Directors.

Patrice’s career has spanned 27 years with the 60,000-member BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), including 20 years as director. Since retiring from the BCGEU in 2003, she has worked as a strategic planning consultant and board member (for what?).

She chairs the board of the Burnaby-based Sharing Our Futures Foundation and she is a past chair of the Lower Mainland United Way. Patrice was also a director at the Vancouver Foundation and has served on the National Executive Committee for the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.

When her daughter was diagnosed with a rare developmental disorder at the age of four, Patrice became a fierce advocate for people with disabilities in British Columbia.

In 2008, Business in Vancouver recognized Patrice with their ‘Influential Women in Business’ award. She is also a recipient of the Joe Morris Labour Community Service Award and the President’s Award of Distinction from the United Way. In 2007, she was named to the City of Burnaby’s Local Heroes list.

Natacha designed the curriculum as an open learning source, meaning leading educators continually contribute to it, allowing the most creative, up-to-date and advanced philosophies to be incorporated.
